Gary Friedmann has dedicated more than 40 years to serving Maine as a small business owner, nonprofit leader, local elected official, and State Representative for House District 14. Throughout his career, he has worked to strengthen communities, lower costs for working families, and protect the places that make Maine home.

In the Maine House, Gary serves on the Joint Standing Committee on Taxation and is the founding Chair of the House Progressive Caucus. He has helped advance legislation to lower electricity costs through Maine's nation-leading plug-in solar law, expand affordable housing, strengthen public education, improve healthcare access, increase property tax relief, and support working families through investments in child care and direct care workers.

Gary champions policies that protect civil liberties, promote tax fairness, and address long-term challenges facing Maine, including data privacy, Wabanaki rights, and responsible economic development.

Before serving in Augusta, Gary spent 12 years on the Bar Harbor Town Council, where he helped establish the first community solar farm and municipal solar installation in Versant territory. He is also the co-founder of A Climate to Thrive, Maine Climate Action Now, and Our Power, organizations that have helped shape Maine's leadership on clean energy and climate action.

As the owner of a consulting business, Gary has worked with hundreds of nonprofits across Maine, helping organizations strengthen their leadership, improve strategic planning, and better serve their communities. His commitment to public service has earned recognition including the Bar Harbor Chamber of Commerce Environmental Leadership Award and the Friends of Baxter State Park President's Award.

Gary proudly supports Maine's Clean Election system and runs a campaign funded by Maine voters, ensuring his focus remains on delivering practical results for the people of District 14.
